What Not to Do When Moving Homes

Posted by in Guides, on April 21, 2015

Finding adequate advice on how to properly move your home is not that hard. The dos of moving are more than clear, but rarely someone warns the people what not to do when they are moving between properties.

Grave mistakes in the moving process are not that hard to make. This is the reason why we have taken the time to collect some of the basic don’ts of every removal, so that your moving in London becomes easier and much more efficient.

1)      One thing many people do not think about is how harmful using the final sweep of the old home for taking new items that are to be moved to the new place. You should have a list of everything you need and want prepared in advance and stick to it. Chances are that if you did not think of something while you were initially preparing for the move, you do not need it that much.

2)      Hiring a moving company without asking for a quote in advance is another grave mistake. Basically, every moving company offers free quotes in advance and even viewings for more precise estimate of the volume of goods to be moved. You should ask several contractors for quotes and then pick up the best offer.

3)      Forgetting to check with the suppliers at the new place. You should make sure that you have access to utilities, as well as internet and phone at the new place well before you move in. Otherwise you risk having to live a considerable amount of time uncomfortably due to lack of such. So just get in touch with the local suppliers at the new place and make sure everything is arranged in advance.

4)      Forgetting to label your boxes. If you think that packing is hell, wait until you have to unpack the goods you have taken with you at the new place if you did not properly label every individual box with its exact content.

5)      Boxes-for-movingWasting time packing easy items and not thinking about the serious problems. Moving is stressful and it is a natural reaction to concentrate on the easy tasks first in order to reduce the pressure. This however may lead to some pretty serious complications, because 8 times out of 10 it turns out that you are left with insufficient time to tackle all the tasks on your list – this is the place when the panic kicks in so just make sure that does not happen.

6)      Forgetting to prepare for the first days at the new place. When you move in you are going to need time to adapt, to unpack your goods and prepare your new place for living. In these initial days you are going to need a stock of basic supplies as food, a couple of changes of clothes, your documents as well as vital medicine to be at hand at any time. Those essentials are to be packed separately and if you forget about that only problems are going to arise.
