The new guards arrive at 11:15am from the south side of the palace’s enclosure while the old guards form up on the north side on Horse Guards Parade. The entire ceremony continues for exactly 45 minutes and is something that all London inhabitants and visitors should witness at least once in their lifetime. The best thing about seeing the changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace is that it is a free. Just make sure that you arrive early, so that you can find a spot with a nice view.
- Strolling in green spaces – London is the European city with the most open spaces. Hyde Park is undoubtedly the most renowned park of the capital. It was created in 1637 and currently covers an area of 625 acres. Hyde Park is one of the Royal Parks of London and its most famous feature is the Speakers’ Corner. Greenwich Park is another London based green space that is worth a visit. Much smaller than Hyde Park, this open space covers an area of 180 acres of lush green land. The park opens at 06:00am for pedestrians and 07:00am for traffic and closes at dusk.
- Ride a bicycle – The English capital is one of the most bike-friendly cities on the world. You can rent out a bicycle from various public rental services at a very affordable price, if you don’t have one with you. By opting for this activity you will not only cut your transportation costs but you will also be able to see numerous prominent London landmarks in a peaceful and easy way. On the other hand if you are an adventure seeker you can opt to ride a BMX at the BMX Track at Haggerston Park in the Borough of Hackney.
- Ride a canoe/raft – Head to the Lee Valley, White Water Centre in Hertfordshire. While not located in London, this amazing canoeing and rafting venue is situated in close proximity to the English capital and can be easily reached via train, bus or car. The centre is considered to be one of the finest on the continent and a testament to this is the fact that it hosted several canoeing disciplines from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
