Moving House Equipment

Causing damage to goods or losing items during removal is one of the biggest problems (and nuisance) to do with house moving projects. Obviously man and van removal companies aim to reduce and if possibly cancel out the risk of damage or misplacement of items altogether through different means and methods.

Packing and securing is arguably the most essential and crucial aspect of ensuring safe handling and no-damage transportation of goods from A to B. Packing and securing of items is quite specific and tricky process as each object or item requires unique packing for sufficient protection. Professional man and van removal companies use a variety of materials and supplies to achieve the required level of protection. Smaller items may need individual wrapping in either paper, bubble wrap, or another insulation material. Packing objects individually is vital even if they will be travelling in a box as banging and rolling of items inside the box will surely cause damage during transit. Certain items may require a box of their own – pottery and artwork are best transported in individual wrappings and box.

When packing multiple boxes is it is highly advisable to list the contents and label the box (colour coding also works) so you know what’s inside the box and where it is supposed to go upon delivery.

Furniture has always been a problem to relocate as certain pieces do not handle transit too well altogether, or they are a real pain to disassemble and reassemble upon delivery. Rule of thumb is to always disassemble a given piece of furniture (if possible) as this will mean safer and more efficient transit. Sometimes furniture cannot be taken apart, this is when securing and wrapping procedures are needed. Usually specialised man and van companies will apply a range of different protective and insulation materials. For example, a wardrobe (which cannot be dismantled) will be wrapped in padding, especially around its corners and edges, then wrapped all over in protective foil in order to hold the padding in place and protect furniture surfaces. There are also special wardrobe boxes for standard size wardrobes.

Packing-materialsSpecialised transit blankets are another protective material use by man and van movers. These blankets come in different sizes and strengths. Tie straps are another important piece of the furniture removal kit, they keep doors and drawers in place during removal and in some cases straps provide for easier handling of the furniture piece. A variation of the traditional furniture removal blanket is the paper furniture blanket also known as moving pad. Usually cross stich removal blankets provide for more strength and durability thus better protection too.

Some of the other commonly used tools in the man and van removal company arsenal are packing boxes and archive boxes. They don’t differ much from each other but their grips/handles, strength and durability are different. There are also different sized mattress bags for safe handling and removal of otherwise awkward mattresses. There are different grades packing paper as well as different grade bubble wrap. Packing tape is another essential tool which also comes in different varieties.
