Five Great English Footballers
Posted by Jerrard Romanoff in Guides, on March 22, 2015England has always been a country which has been obsessed with football and this is why the country has produced some of the finest players in the history of the game. While some of these players have stopped playing professionally others are still kicking the ball in front of thousands of spectators on a regular basis.
Bobby Charlton – Sir Robert Charlton more commonly known as Bobby Charlton is considered to be the greatest English player to have played the game of football. No other player has scored more goal for Manchester United (249 goals) and the English national football team than him (49 goals). He was one of the few survivors of the 1958 Munich Air Disaster that killed most of the teammates. During his career, Bobby Charlton won the English Championship on three occasions, the FA Cup once and the European Cup one. He was also part of the English team that won the 1966 World Cup. In 1966 he also won football most prestigious individual award, the Ballon D`Or.
Stanley Matthews – Sir Stanley Matthews was the first player to receive the Ballon D`Or in 1956, topping football legends such as Alfredo Di Stefano and Raymond Kopa who came second and third. Although he didn’t win many accolades during this career (one FA Cup in 1953) Stanley Matthews is regarded as one of the finest dribbles in English football history. He played until the age of 50 and recorded his last cap for the English national team at the age of 48.
Bobby Moore – Born Robert Frederick Chelsea Moore, Bobby Moore is without any doubt the finest English defender in history. He was the captain of the English national team that won the World Cup in 1966. Bobby Moore played most of his career for West Ham United and helped the team to win an FA Cup in 1964 and a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965. In 1970, he was the runner up for the Ballon D`Or.
Gordon Banks – The English have always had the problem of producing world class goalkeepers. But luckily for them they had Gordon Banks from the late 1950s to the late 1970s. Regarded as England finest goalkeeper, he was part of the team that won the 1966 World Cup on domestic soil. In terms of club honors, Gordon Banks won the Football League Cup on two occasions (1964 with Leicester City and 1972 with Stoke City). He was voted the second best goalkeeper of the 20th century.
Wayne Rooney – Wayne Rooney is the current leader of the English national team and Manchester United. Born in Liverpool, he began his career in Everton where he played for two years before joining Manchester United in the summer of 2004. Since then Rooney has made 471 appearances for the club in which he has scored 229 goals. During his career he has won the English Championship five times, the Football League Cup two times and the European Cup once. You can still go see Rooney play once that your relocation project is completed with the aid of professional movers. Don’t be hesitant to use moving services if you are facing a time sensitive and labour intensive removal.
Other great English players are Tom Finney, Geoff Hurst, Bryan Robson, Steven Gerrard, Gary Lineker and many, many more.
