Five Football Teams That Have Been Eclipsed by Their City Rivals
Posted by Jerrard Romanoff in Guides, on March 24, 2015Some football teams have the bad luck of being based in cities that have a major club that overshadow them constantly. In today’s article we will turn your attention towards some of them because they may not be the most popular or glamorous but they are still good clubs that deserve to be recognized.
Cercle Brugge K.S.V– For 116 years this Brugge based football club has been living in shadow of city rivals Club Brugge. While there is no doubt that the latter is more titled, Cercle Brugge has it merits as well. The club has won the Belgian Championship on three occasions (1911, 1927 and 1930) and the Belgian Cup on two occasions (1927 and 1985). Presently it is playing in Belgium’s top tier of professional football and holds the 15th place in the league table.
Sparta Rotterdam – As the name suggests this Dutch football club is based in the city of Rotterdam and is outshined by the world famous Feyenoord Rotterdam F.C. It was founded in 1888 and is the older of the two Rotterdam based clubs and has won the Eredivisie (The Dutch Championship) a total of six times – for the last time 1959. Sparta Rotterdam has only three Dutch Cups (1958, 1962 and 1966) in its trophy cabinet. At the moment the club plays in the country’s second-highest division, the Eerste Divisie also known as the Jupiler League.
Paris F.C – Despite being a Paris based team Paris F.C isn’t anywhere as popular as its city rivals Paris Saint Germain more shortly known as PSG. The club was founded one year prior of PSG, in 1969 and presently plays in the Championnat de France National which is the third professional division of French football. Unlike the previous two clubs, which despite the presence of their rivals have won some silverware throughout the years, Paris F.C has never managed to win any trophy.
Leyton Orient F.C – Founded in 1881 Leyton Orient F.C is the second oldest London based football club. Despite being more than a century old the team has played only one single season in England’s top tier (1962-1963) and has never won any silverware. The highest achievement of the club came in 1978 when it reached the FA Cup semi-finals. You can attend at a Leyton Orient’s or any other London based team game once your relocation to the English capital is over. You can ease and speed-up your removal by using professional moving services. Don’t worry about the price of such services as nowadays most movers work with cost effective prices that are easily affordable.
TSV 1860 Munich – Founded in 1860 and this is the older of the two Munich based football teams. An interesting fact is that both clubs play their home matched as the same stadium – the Allianz Arena, which is presently one of the finest football facilities in the world. Unlike their city rivals the world famous F.C Bayern Munich who have won numerous domestic and international championships, TSV 1860 Munich has won only one German Championship and two German Cups under their belt.
